Does laptop come with router? / IP address how?
Well actually I'm asking this for my bf. I helped him find the IP address but when he enter it in his browser it never works. He only uses an Ethernet cord and he's in his dorm. Does a router come with a laptop or do you think he just doesn't have one?

1. No, a laptop doesn't come with a router.If the room has an Ethernet plug that he's using and he wants to go wireless, he'll need a wireless access point. This sits in the end of the Ethernet cord and send out the WiFi signal.
He should probably check with his school's IT department.
2. No, a router and laptop come seperately. Usually if he wants wireless internet he will need to buy a wireless router that will connect up to four or more LAN connections(wired connections). Your dorm might provide wireless internet in which case you will have to ask the administrator of the network there because you sometimes have to pay for wireless internet in which case they give you a security WEP or WAP Key to access their network. You type the key in when you try to access the security enabled wireless network. It will ask you when you try to connect to the wireless signal.
