how do i edit my router when the default ip address doesn't work?
also i live on a college campus apartment where there's already an internet provided for us the ports i want to be open are closed but in order to open it i have to know what the router ip address is.

1. it's usually your default gateway. Check your ipconfig or network status, it should be listed there2. It won't happen. You need administrator access to that router and opening those ports are a security risk. If this belongs to your college then they have set the boundaries on what is acceptable use of bandwidth. They have this right as it is their network, they also have a responsibility to others who use the networks.
Everything you do on that network is logged on their servers.
3. To know what is router IP address simple visit:
http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/router-ip-address.php
http://www.find-ip-address.org/router-ip-address.php
Both site will give you what is your router IP and what is your LAN IP.
