Will a router get damaged if it frequently gets turned on and off accidentally?
I have a linksys WRT54G2 wireless router.
I have it plugged on a loose socket because that is the only free and nearest socket in a convenient place for the router and frequently gets disconnected from power at random times (like two to three times a day) because of dogs being unruly all the time.
Id rather have the plug get bumped by dogs rather than the router itself.
Is there a chance that the router can get damaged by that?
Are routers designed to endure that kind of treatment?

1. Not at all..
2. absolutely not. just turn it back on, and if it still acts kind of screwy, just reset it
3. No it doesn't harm your router. It justs resets your router every time its unplugged so it should be fine.
4. Well, they're certainly not "designed" to endure that kind of treatment ;).
However, if it's only a few times a day there should be no problems that should arise. Of course if you can limit it happening, the more the better, but I wouldn't imagine it would damage it for any reason--should be perfectly fine.
5. circuit boards are better than they used to be, but I still prefer hardware such as they be turned off very minimally to reduce the chance of damaging something. A new 15 amp outlet is like $2.00 at the home store. Turn the breaker off, and it will take 10-15 minutes tops for you to put a new one in.
6. It shouldn't get damaged by unplugging it but if the cord is pulled out to hard, over timer the cord could fray.
And it really depends on the type of cord and router you have, if the router isn't strong and durable and there are dogs stepping on it, or hitting it off something, etc. it may get damaged.
I don't know what you mean by loose outlet, but I would try and tighten it, or if the holes are to big try bending the two metal pieces at the end of the cord outward away from each other, to help it stay in the outlet better.
hope this helped, thanks!
7. Lynksys routers are pieces of crap regardless of treatment. Your goonna have to replace it every 6 months or so anyway
8. It won't damage the router. Try unplugging the router and squeezing the prongs of the plug together or apart slightly. This will help keep the plug in the socket. The best thing to do is go to the hardware store and get another outlet. They are cheap. Be sure to turn off the power before you install the new outlet.
