There are two ways for you to be able to secure a router:
1. By converting an old computer with 2 Ethernet cards into one.
2. By purchasing one.
Option 1 is feasible if you have an old computer lying around, say a Pentium II, 64-128 MB, 1-2 GB machine. You can then purchase two Ethernet cards and install it onto your computer. Then, you'll have to download an operating system or firewall for the router. One very good firewall is Smoothwall, which you can download for free at www.smoothwall.org. After installation, you will then configure the firewall settings through a Web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. Sound complicated? Then option 2 is for you.
Option 2 is more practical. You can just purchase a router from your favorite computer store, then set it up via a Web browser. You won't have to install anything. Nothing like a search!!!
2. your joking correct ???
you can buy a router for 60.00 (USD ) there is no way your going to build a router cheaper then you can buy one for
3. I saw a router at Fry's for 15.00 US. The router that you're trying to make will cost more than that in parts and think of your time.
While you can make an antenna out of a pringles can, routers are a bit more complex, even if you do make it out of an old computer. Linux boxes make good routers for those old pieces of junk laying around and they are free but again you have to invest your time into it.
A kid on a paper route would make that 15.00 dollars in one day and have his router up and running later that evening.
Just shop around and save the time and head ache.
4. I hope you are joking.
Less than a month ago I saw a 802.11 A, B, and G router at Best Buy for under $100.00 thats a bit pricey but it does all three.
Word to the wise -- -- don't buy any "wireless N" gear. The speeds look tempting but the n technology is still in the "draft phase" and if you buy "draft" or "pre-N" gear and the FCC ratified version is different
then
Draft N and the Ratified N will not work
