Does a wireless router need to be connected to a wired router?
I'm trying to get the optimum internet setup in my home and I just don't know how to. At the moment I have a fairly rubbish wired router connected to a fairly rubbish wireless router. I'm getting a new wireless router soon, so do I also need to change the wired router to get the best out of the wireless router? Or can I just have the wireless router?

Don't confuse a Modem for a router. You need a modem. It provides the Internet signal from your ISP.
2. Just the wireless router. A wireless router also has wired ports.
3. Your modem has only one plug, which should be going directly to a single router. Most (?) wireless routers also have places for wired PC's to connect to, and of course antenna(s) to deal with the wifi-enabled computers. I wouldn't recommend connecting one router into another. All you should need is one - and the modem itself.

Connect the modem to a phone jack, then your wireless router would be connected to the modem
5. No. The wireless router stands on it's own. You may have bought a device that is just a wireless access point and not a wireless access point and a router. Then you will need a router if you want to share the Internet with multiple computers.

Unless you have a good reason to get a new router, don't get one. If you do online gaming where you need to prioritize traffic, then you might want to get a gaming router. If you're just a regular Internet user, then don't get a new router. Watch that video instead.
