If I buy a wireless router and card such as netgear for example...do i still need cable or can i tell the cable and phone company to bug pff and subscribe to verizon wireless or something like that?

1. If you buy a router and wireless card or adapter for your computer, you will still need your internet from your internet provider. If you get an internet card from a cell phone company or something like that you won't even need a router and will be able to access your internet from almost anywhere, but those cards are usually expensive and are good if you need internet on the go.
PS: If you have a laptop computer it may already have a wireless card installed, so you would only need a router. If it is for a desktop, you won't need a internet card from a cell phone company because you won't be able to go anywhere with it.
