so can anyone provide me with some good option routers with this type of connection, there is no modem just the router and cable.

sorry for being such a noob! :(
ok i now know how to set my router to bridge mode thanks classicsat... but can you guys point me to a good router to bridge to. i'm losing 19 mb of my connection speed through the wireless of my crappy router and my only choice is wireless as the router must be in the living room which i cannot game in.

1. That box you have is a modem router.

You need to set it to Bridge mode, to use a regular router.

2. hmm well now this is an odd looking cable for an internet connection i use an Ethernet cable and a dsl
and i just plug all my games into that but your router has a coaxial cable input?

3. First off, a wireless N router won't do a bit of good unless you change all your wireless hardware to wireless N also. A wireless N router will default to G speeds. Secondly, don't fall for these so called gaming routers. Not sure what you have for a cable modem but if it has lan ports, your best gaming will be through a wired game console or PC. Forget gaming on a wireless home network if you want the best connection.

4. As the above answer stated, you currently have a combination cable modem and router.
To change over to a better router, you first need to replace your current unit with a cable modem. Then connect the router to the modem using an Ethernet cable.
Check with your ISP for information on how to get just a straight modem.
