How to make my wireless router an access point?

I have a netgear wireless router and I need to make it an access point. I have another router connected to a modem and it has Internet access. I'm trying to get the netgear to connect to the other router to get Internet connection with netgear what do I need to do?

1. That's how I use my NetGear router.

First, restore the NetGear router to factory default by powering it on, and holding in the "reset" button for 15 seconds or so.

Before connecting it to your network, connect an Ethernet cable between any computer and one of the NetGear router's LAN ports (not the WAN port). Log in to the router's configuration pages in the usual manner.

In the setup for the NetGear router, disable the DHCP function. Disable the firewall functions. Change the LAN subnetwork to something different from your other router's subnet. (i.e.: if your other router uses 192.168.1.0, set the NetGear LAN to 192.168.2.0) You'll lose connection to the NetGear at this point, but that's the last change.

You don't have to make any changes to your other router.

Now, connect one of the NetGear router's LAN ports (NOT THE WAN PORT!) to a LAN port on your other router with an Ethernet cable. You may or may not need a "crossover" cable for this, but it won't hurt, so if you're buying a new Ethernet cable, make it a crossover. (A straight cable will work with some routers, but not others.)

That's it.

2. The following are some of the techniques to convert a wireless router into an access point:
Find IP addresses

You might be using a modem/gateway/router in the network. You need to know the IP address of those network devices. You need to login to the routers admin interface. The admin interface can be availed by providing the username and password. Type the IP address in web browser, and then find the DHCP range.
Turn off the DHCP server

You need to switch off the wireless DHCP server on your wireless router. This is very important for setting up the wireless access point. You need to have a wired DHCP server not the DHCP server. Crossover cable needs to be used depending on your router / access point. Based on the manufacturer, it might differ. Standard straight through cable needs to be avoided.
Try to access the networkYou need to make sure that all the settings are done correctly. For this, you need to restart the network and make sure everything is working correctly. Use the wireless access point in the server so as to make sure that you are able to access the network you have connected to. If you encounter any issues, recheck your Ethernet cables and make sure that it is properly connected.
