How to turn a Belkin N1 wireless router into a wireless access point?

Hi

I have Belkin N1 wireless router that I purchased incorrectly. I want to use it to connect wirelessly to my Netgear Wireless-N 300 Router with DSL Modem which is in the study up stairs. I know it's possible but I have know idea how to do it. Do you call it wireless access point?

1. It all depends on the FIRMWARE in the router. Some Belkin Routers can use DD-WRT firmware
http://dd-wrt.com some can't... so what model of Belkin do you have? N1 isn't descriptive enough there is a MODEL number.

Unless the original software/firmware includes the setting to use the unit as a "bridge" meaning it offers a setup page to enter the information to connect to the other router you simply can't connect. As shipped I don't know of any Belkin Routers that have the ability you need... Adding different firmware will allow it if you router can use the upgraded firmware.

2. Essentially all wireless routers can be configured to act as a wireless access point.
So this example works for not just Belkin, but any other wireless router.

#1 - Log into the wireless router and disable DHCP.
#2 - Connect a network cable from your switch to any of the LAN ports on the wireless router.
#3 - Please do not connect anything to the WAN port.

In this configuration, assuming that you already had DHCP on your network, and that you already had a valid default gateway routing traffic to the Internet or other location outside your network, then you wireless router can start working as an access point to your LAN.

I hope this helps.
