how can you access files on a desktop on one computer from another computer connected by a wireless router?

i bought a new laptop and a router. i used the router to create a network so that there would be a wireless signal for my laptop to get internet access. the router is connected to my modem and my home computer. i was trying to get media files and other documents from my home computer to my laptop but there is some error that prevents files from being shared. is there a way to bypass that error?

1. You need to enable file sharing for one, once done it's a snap, connect using the hosts IP address.

Start>>run then type \\<IP_address>\<share_name>

So it'll look like \\192.168.0.100\home (assuming the computer you want connect to has an IP of 192.168.0.100 and a share name of "home".)

You can also use the home group feature if running Windows 7, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Share-files-with-someone
