Can I put a plunge router in a router table?
I'm very new to routers and I'm not sure of the difference between a plunge router, a stationary router, and a table router. It think a plunge router is able to move up and down while a stationary router stays level and a table router doesn't move but instead the wood itself is moved. Am I right and can a plunge router be made into a stationary router with just an accessory? In the end I need to know if a plunge router can be put into a router table. Thanks.

1. Yes. A plung router is what you would need for a table router. If you don't use a plunge router then you would be stuck without being able to make any adjustments.
2. Yes you can use a plunge router in a table. Having said that unless you have an above the table height adjustment I think they are more trouble than they are worth. Personally I use a fixed base Porter-Cable in my table which works just fine.
3. A plunger router is just like an ordinary one except it is sprung so that you can postion it, turn it on and then press down. It is more accurate than trying to just guide the bit into the wood.
Different models have different features, so a trip to the hardware store would be the option of choice for me.
4. The difference between a plunge router and a stationary router is that to use the router by hand, you can set the depth of cut by turning down the ruler knob on the side of the router to the depth that you need .
If you take off the base of the router you can mount your router to a table, either the type you would buy at the tool outlet or you can make a table yourself from timber , consisting of four sides and a hinged top,cut the diameter of the hole big enough for your largest cutter to pass through you can use a straight edge clamped on the table for a
guide or use it free hand .
buy yourself a book on how to use your router and you can have loads of fun whilst making great things for the home and for the kids
