need some help with cisco wireless router?

hello I am having some problems with my cisco wireless router and need some help. For the past three weeks I have had time warner cable road runner internet vonage phone and a cisco wireless router all connected and running wonderfully together. Well that all changed Thursday night. I thought that my computer might have got hit by a virus and unplugged the internet. after scanning my anti virus didn't detect anything. well i plugged up everything and much to my horror I couldn't get vonage or my wireless router to work. I could still get internet connection as long as I had the ethernet cable plugged straight into the modem. After working on it all day Friday I still wasn't able to get the vonage or my wireless router to work. This morning we were finally able to get the vonage to work agian but still haven't had any luck getting the cisco wireless router to work. I tried everything I even went out and bought another cisco router same design and model. It still isn't working. I have tried everything that i could possibly think off and every time that i plug the wireless router up the computer says that it is getting limited or no connectivity. However I didnt see how that is possible because when I ping yahoo in command prompt I get four responses. We called cisco and they weren't helpful they tried to blame the problem on Time Warner. I have given up and if anybody has any idea on what might be causing this and how to fix it please tell me so that I can fix this. Thanks Josh

1. Ok here is a couple of things that may be going on. The first thing that came to mind was an ip conflict. Do you know what IP address you get hardwired to the modem and what you get from the linksys. One other thing that it might be are you connecting using a wireless connection off of the linksys router. It could be a security mismatch if you are connecting wireless. That would explain the limited or no connectivity. That message normally means that your not getting a valid ip address off of the router. There could be a chance that when you were pinging yahoo you could be getting replies from the router or the computes nic saying that it is unreachable and on the ping statistics you would get a message that it sent 4 received 4 lost 0 even if there is no internet connection. One last thing that it could be a firewall. It could be blocking the connection when going through the router but not doing so when off of the modem. Good luck and hope that I helped some.

2. I wonder if you have tried to turn off the modem? You don't mention that. Sometimes just turning off everything, wait a few minuts, turn on the modem, wait for the lights, then the router, then each other item one at a time. If you just move the wire from one device to the next the modem may not notice the change and think its still working with one and the second one will not get a good connection.

3. I had about the same problem here and no I don't have Time Warner. I have AT&T
It kept telling me I had a conflict between 2 different wireless networks. So after a lot of thinking and worry I finally figured it out. Here is how I fixed mine. I was only suppose to have but one wireless network some how it showed another one as Home network #2
So I went to my router diagnostics page and changed router name from Linksys to Linksys_truelove
That solved my problem then all was fine. That might work for you and it might not. Have a question send E-mail to: techniciangeek@aol.com
