How do I reset my router IP address?

My internet has been shaky lately and I was told it's a problem with the router. I hard-wired my laptop to the modem and ran the command prompt, but every time I type ipconfig/release, it says my media is disconnected. I tried hard-wiring my computer to the router and trying it, but that didn't work either. I am able to access the internet so I don't know what "media" they are talking about that is disconnected. What am I supposed to do?

1. unplug for 6 minuites, then reconnect, congrats new IP, if that doesnt work 12 hours should surely do it

2. Reset your IP address - Works EVERY time

Sometimes unplugging some routers doesn't do it. Here is a guide article. Good luck!

3. If you have a wireless card in your laptop and you hard wire it, then the wireless card is going to be disconnect. That is what ipconfig is telling you. The wireless is not connected. (But you already knew that since is it the problem you are trying to fix.)

Usually when the wireless begins to act up, the best thing to do is to just turn off (or unplug if there is no switch) the router, wait a couple minutes, and restart it. That will usually clear the IP table and get things working again.

4. Connect Modem [wired] to Router [wired] to PC.
