How to use a wireless router as access point?

Forgive me if I can't explain my situation properly. We have cable internet and a wireless router in the living room of our house. I have a desktop computer in my room that doesn't have a wireless network card. I have an extra linksys router that I was hoping I could use plug into my desktop to get internet access. How would I go about doing this?
I use windows xp on my desktop.

1. That extra Linksys router would have to be plugged into the first Linksys router. But if you had enough cord to run that length and could pull it off without much trouble, you might as well just plug directly into the computer.

2. there is a way to do what you want, but it's a little complicated.

You would need to replace the operating systems on both of the routers with one that supports WDS (Wireless Distributed System). DWS allows you to wirelessly connect the two routers AND allow you to use them for connection as well.

DD-WRT is one of the more popular ones.
