What does it mean when your ip address through a router begins with 24?
i recentyl reset to factory default settings on my router and set up everything but the ip address i get when i am connected wirelessly to my router now begins with a 24 starting ip address. however when i disconnect my router and hook it up to my cable modem it begins with a 72 ip address which was the same address i had before i reset to factory default.

1. 24 is a public ip address and i am guessing that your router doesn;t have to do anything with it, i believe it's caused by windows, windows will give you a random ip address when the router is reloading or not responding. I you get the 24 address again try by rebooting your computer. Also make sure that your computer is not set with an static ip.

refer to this web page to take the static ip off.
2. If you are using DSL then you may have punched a block of IP Address, if so then the router will pass them out.
