how do you correctly install Linksys wireless router? directly to modem or to computer first? We have a satellite internet provider which is Wild Blue. We are getting a wonderful connection with the modem hooked directly to the main desktop computer but when we went to have the Linksys router installed it would show there was good signal but it would pop up and say no internet connection. on our laptop it showed the icon that said it was picking up the signal of a Linksys but you could not connect to the internet. We are wondering by looking over the directions if the person who tried to install it had it hooked wrong. It sounds like the router needed to come into the modem and then other wired computers would go into extra ports on router and then the laptop which is wireless capable would pick up the signal. We think they had the modem plugged into the computer and then the router plugged into the computer also. Would this cause it to not have a connection? light on modem is solid green and were told by installers that if it is solid green we are connected yet it is saying no

How To Get A Free Wireless Router From Comcast? I just got internet with Comcast, and it is working well. The problem is, it isn't wireless. I had just assumed they were going to throw in a router when they set up my internet - But, apparently they do not do that. At least not with the package I got. How do I configure a wireless router and computers to allow file sharing and access to printer? I have a DLink DIR 615 wireless router NOT connected to the internet. I have an HP printer connected to a desktop which in turn is connected by cable directly to the internet. The desktop also has a USB ipTime wireless device installed. My son has an ASUS laptop with its own inbuilt wireless card. The laptop is connected directly to the internet in his room by cable. All computers are running XP Pro, What I want to do is to allow my son's laptop to access the printer connected to the desktop and share files between the two devices. Initially I tried to connect using the cabled internet connection, but this was unsuccessful and confirmed by a computer techo from the IT department of the university (in Korea) where I teach. I then tried setting up an adhoc wireless network, but walls and signal strength did not allow the desktop and laptop to talk to each other. At present I have the wireless router disconnected from the internet. I have disabled DHCP, the firewall and uPnP on the router. I have assigned static IP addresses to the desktop and laptop and both have connected wirelessly to the router. However, I cannot identify the printer on the laptop, so am unable to send documents to print from the laptop or share files between the two devices. At present I can ping the desktop from the laptop and get a response okay. However, I cannot successfully ping the laptop from the desktop. I can ping the router from the desktop and get a response.
